Since the beginning, Garcia's goal has been to help Guatemalan families break the cycle of ignorance and poverty through education and support. In his own words, "We offer respect and help to everyone who wants to get out of the vicious cycle of poverty, and unemployment. Our ultimate purpose is to make families aware of their human dignity and power to change and shape their own lives, and also to make them realize that they can make their dreams come true."

Under the Same Moon is the American fund-raising arm of Asociación Bendición de Dios - a nondenominational, nonprofit school and community development organization in San Juan Alotenango, Guatemala. Asociación Bendición de Dios educates 500 pre-K through grade 6 children at no cost to families.

Under the Same Moon is a U.S. registered 501(c)(3) organization. The Asociación Bendición de Dios is a Guatemalan-registered nonprofit governmental organization. The school, Bendición de Dios, educates about 500 children who otherwise would not be able to afford the $300 annual fees for the "public" school. The Asociación aims to raise community living standards so that children come to school healthy and well-rested.
